Well, we survived our first family vacation and road trip!
Last Wednesday night we packed up the jeep and headed for California to visit our friends Tarah & Clinton. It ended up taking us 2 days to get there, which was okay because we got to spend the day in Phoenix and see my cousin Jamie :)
We got to our destination of Rosamond about 11:00 Thursday night. And honestly, the road trip wasn't as bad as I thought it would be with a 2 month old and a dog.
It was Clinton's first time meeting Dallas & Tarah hadn't seen her since she was a couple days old so they were so excited :)
Friday, Clinton had to work, and we spent most of the day relaxing at their house. Then we grilled out and ate outside. One of my favorite parts of being there was being able to eat dinner on the patio every night. I wish it wasn't so hot here so we could be outside more! We took Dallas's swing outside with us and she loved it! Maya also loved their back yard because it's a lot bigger than ours and she can actually run around.
Saturday, we got to drive around and see all the wind turbines that Clinton works on! There are thousands in that area, and Clinton works on a farm with 70 turbines. It was so beautiful seeing them all.
Then we drove up to Tehachapi for lunch. We ate at The Apple Shed. It's a really good little restaurant that's also a bakery and they make their own fudge, which was delicious!! Such a cute little place :)
Later that afternoon, we took Dallas swimming. She LOVES the water! She loved being held in the water and we put her on the raft (holding onto her of course) and pushed her around the pool. She really liked it.
Sunday, the boys were on baby duty and Tarah and I went shopping :) We went to the mall, Target and Trader Joe's! I loved Trader Joe's. I wish we had one here! But I hear they are building one in Grand Rapids, I can't wait!
Then, since it was Father's Day, and Corey's first one, we made an awesome dinner! Okay, well Tarah did, I just handled dessert. She made ribs, baked beans, & pasta salad. And of course we ate it on the patio, with some delicious drinks. So good!
Monday was our big day out of the house! We drove 2 hours to Ventura beach.
It was beautiful! There was a big park with grass and picnic tables that we ate lunch at.
Then we hung out at the beach for a while, which dogs were allowed to be at. Maya loved that. She loved running into the ocean, until she felt how cold it was, then she'd run right back out.

After we all got nice and toasty red, (of course right before family pictures...) we went and got ice cream and walked around downtown for a little bit.
Then we had dinner on the pier. Honestly, the expensive food wasn't that great.. but it was still nice eating right over the ocean.
Tuesday was our last full day in Cali. We were still pretty exhausted from the night before, so we laid around most of the day. But it was still a good day. Wednesday afternoon, we packed up and headed back to Texas. It was sad saying goodbye, but we decided they are coming to visit us in August!
